IT’S ALL IN THE NAME

Our company was established 5 years ago.Initially, we decided to set up a business that supported young people to overcome challenges and gain a University degree.

Wendy’s experience of managing a disability service within a University and Deborah’s previous care management roles enabled ‘York Student Support’ to be born.

It wasn’t without its challenges and quite quickly we had to diversify and change our business model to meet the needs of all adults in York who needed some level of support. This still included support for students.

We changed our name to ‘York PA and Student Support.’- quite a mouth full we know! This new name reflected the new focus of recruiting, managing and supplying Personal Assistants throughout York.

Our experience and commitment to providing the very best personalised support for adults in York soon became well respected in the field of social care. Our support provided at home continues to grow. Now the majority of our work is based in people’s homes providing one to one support. To reflect this, we are now simply called ‘York Personal Support.’

We do, of course, continue to work with students, as well as supporting people in the workplace, and we have met some wonderful people throughout the last 5 years.

Of course we couldn’t have achieved all this without some excellent staff around us. We really have been fortunate in that we have a strong, reliable team who support us every day to best meet the needs of our service users.

Now, we are very much looking forward to the next 5 years.  While we are determined to remain a small company with a very personal approach, we are looking forward to meeting new people, both service users and staff and continuing to provide an excellent, well respected service.

NEWS

AN INTRODUCTION TO KLOE

The process by which adult care services are inspected has changed with the introduction of the key lines of enquiry. (KLOE)

This is based around 5 questions. Is the service:

Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well led?

SAFE – Are all service users and staff protected from abuse and avoidable harm?

YPS ensure that all staff are fully referenced, have an enhanced DBS check and receive relevant training to their role. All staff receive Safeguarding training and are supervised regularly to ensure they are working safely.

Risk assessments and support plans are produced to make sure that the staff team are aware of the person’s needs and what to do to maintain their safety.

We also welcome any feedback both positive and negative to monitor how safe our service is and to improve on any shortcomings.

The group meet every Monday and have enjoyed trips out bowling, social drinks and are planning more events for the future.

There will be the bad days
when the world is built from:
concrete steps with no wheelchair ramps
paving stones that catch white canes
distrustful paperwork
and ignorance muttered by passer-bys.

There will be the good days
when the world is built from:
drinks by the riverside
voices as warm as the sun
letters of achievement
and conversations with old friends who understand.

We cannot stop the sun in the sky on the good days
or push it below the horizon on the bad:
no matter how much
we might want to.

But we will be there for both
to fight by your side:
for the good minutes
the good hours
the good days.
