Our team of experienced, trained staff provide Personal Assistants (PAs) for  adults living in York who require support at home with personal care (bathing, showering, dressing, meal preparation, medication management, nightsitting, companionship) shopping, cooking, cleaning and support with social activities.  
We also provide specialist services for adults and students who have disabilities, specific learning differences, mental health issues and long term medical conditions who are studying and working in York. Our team provide one to one personal assistance for adults and students, and for those who are eligible for support through the Access To Work scheme. 


Established in July 2011, York PA and Student Support Limited was founded by Wendy Knowles and Deborah Parker. Our aim was to provide one to one support, both personal and academic, for students and other adults living with a disability.

As the students we supported graduated and moved into their own home and into work, we progressed with them, providing support in the community and in the workplace.

We are now known as ‘York Personal Support’ and provide a complete support service throughout York for adults of all ages who live with disabilities, specific learning differences, mental health issues and long-term medical conditions.

Wendy has over 40 years’ experience of working within social care and education, in both support and management roles. Her roles include support work at Barnardo’s and the Autistic Society. She is a qualified Rehabilitation Worker for the visually impaired and has worked at Henshaw’s College for the Blind and was Rehabilitation Manager at the Wilberforce Trust and Disability Manager at York St John University.Taking a lead in supporting our younger customers at University, Wendy also assists Deborah in the general management of the company. 

Deborah has over 25 years’ experience of working in the social care sector. Her experience includes working as a care assistant, senior care assistant, and managerial roles within residential care for the elderly and young adults. Deborah has also been a scheme manager for the elderly and was owner of a successful housekeeping business for the elderly in Leeds.

Deborah set up the business with Wendy and has overall responsibility for the support customers receive and the employment of our excellent staff team.

Deborah is qualified to Level 5 Diploma in Management of Social Care organisations and attends regular training to fulfill her role.

Together, Wendy and Deborah have over 45 years’ experience of providing support for disabled people in Yorkshire.
